Prostate cancer: Two words that carry so much weight. Their resume includes statistics such as “the second most common cancer in the United States,” and “the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men,” according to the American Cancer Society.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it’s important to learn all you can about your treatment and care. Rest assured, at HOPE Cancer Center of East Texas, we are committed to helping you and your family prepare for the journey ahead.

Here are a few things you need to know about prostate cancer treatment

The type of treatment you receive can vary, and treatments are often combined.

The therapy that works well for one person may not be best for you. Know that the treatment we recommend will be based on factors that pertain only to you. They are:

  • Your age
  • Gleason score (grade/size) of the tumor
  • Stage of prostate cancer
  • Your symptoms
  • Your general health

Your treatment options may include:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation therapy
  • Hormone therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
